Jane Headley
Jane is the accomplished Instructor of higher level classes for the more advanced sewists who wish to continue their sewing educations, learning the finer points of couture sewing.
She learned to sew at 9 years of age under the tutelage of her mother. From that point on she has made her own clothes. Luckily, her neighbor worked as a seamstress for a fine dress shop on the East Side of Providence and she would oversee Jane’s work, teaching her the finer points and critiquing her work.
While at the University of Rhode Island, she took course work in tailoring and construction. It was too late into her college education to switch her major, but her love for sewing continued.
Jane taught Physical Education at Cumberland High School for 32 years, and coached Gymnastics and Track and Field for most of them. During those years, she also taught various quilting classes, created paper piecing patterns, and taught fashion sewing classes.
After retirement in 2002, she took the URI Master Seamstress I program and shortly thereafter she taught classes in the Master Seamstress II program. Among the courses that she taught were Couture Details, Little Black Dress, Chanel-like jacket and the tailoring portion of the MSI program.
Jane is inspired and inspiring, making sample garments for Threads Magazine and Cashmerette, and teaching many high level classes for Master the Art of Sewing, including 2 different Cape Classes, Couture Dress, French Jacket, Classic Tailoring, Lace Skirt, and Couture Skirt Fitting and Construction.
Jane continues to develop the body of knowledge acquired along her sewing journey, and brings new ideas and methods to the table.

Barbara Hendricks
Barbara is the Owner and Director of Master the Art of Sewing. At 7 years old, it was her maternal grandmother who first taught her to stitch on an old Singer treadle machine. The interest in sewing grew and by 7th grade, Barbara made some of her school clothing, continuing to sew as a hobby.
As a career long speech pathologist, working in a number of hospital settings, where she also served in administrative positions, Barbara maintained that interest in sewing and eventually participated in formal instruction, receiving Master Seamstress I and II certificates through the University of RI.
Since founding the company, she has offered opportunities for others to learn, from the beginner to highly accomplished seamstress levels, and has participated in every high level class offered within. She embarked on her own sewing educator journey, began a 2 tiered program for adult beginners, and teaches private lessons and workshops to adults, children and teens.

Megan Goulart
Meg's love of fashion and design started when she was young. At five years old, her grandmother taught her how to use a sewing machine and she has not stopped sewing since. Realizing she wanted to pursue a creative career path, Meg attended URI and majored in Textiles, Fashion Merchandising and Design. After graduating in 2019 with an interest in working in a textile field, she wanted her “work” to be more sustainable than the fast fashion industry. Having a love of upcycling textiles, and a desire to share her sewing skills, she joined Barbara in teaching for MAS. Meg teaches workshops and classes for all different skill levels, and loves when people bring in their old sewing machines to learn how to get the most out of them. When she's not thrifting for fabric, she's probably tinkering with her 1950's Singer sewing machine, or working / teaching at The-Sew-Op in N. Kingstown.
She has taught a number of “Learn to Sew” adult classes for MAS, as well as workshops and private lessons.
