Sashiko and Boro - Creative Mending

$45.00

Instructors: Megan Goulart Hunt / Barbara Hendricks

Sat., Dec. 5th 12:30-3pm

Class Cap: 6

Learn to mend, strengthen and alter your favorite denim garments or textile items with Sashiko, a Japanese mending technique.

Sashiko is a form of mindful mending in Japan, which  has found its place in arts and stitching classes in the US and other countries. It’s a stitching method and Boro is the result of mending with sashiko. We use a cotton thread and long needles to make stitches throughout the fabric to reinforce, and decorate it. Patches can be added in this way.

Sashiko thread and needles will be provided to repair / decorate your clothing.

Bring in a pair of jeans, jacket, or blouse. We recommend using denim or other woven fabrics for this workshop, nothing stretchy. (not sure? Reach out!)

The purpose of this is to extend a material’s life; it also adds character and a story!

The best part is that no two designs are alike!
