9:30 AM  to 4:00 PM

Class cap: 8

Pattern and Virtual Workshop (see order information below): $30

Great fitting pants are within your reach with Pants...Perfected! Pamela has addressed the issues many women face when trying to fit pants such as baggy back legs, waistbands that don't fit, darts that pull and crotch seams that are never in the right place. You’ll learn how to achieve a great fit using tissue fitting and professional sewing construction techniques.

Pam has received rave reviews for all of the classes she has taught for Master the Art of Sewing.  In this one day workshop, our goal is to leave the workshop with a fitted pattern, ready for pants making. We will begin with the fitting of prepared muslins (which Pamela will bring to the workshop) available in all sizes and styles, created from her “Pants Perfected “ pattern.  (We will be using Pam’s pattern which should be purchased and prepared before class. See supplies list below).

The “Pants…Perfected” pattern offers choices

  • Full Back or Narrow Back pattern pieces - no more baggy backs!

  • More room at the waist and tummy

  • Improved dart placement

  • Longer/lower back crotch seam

  • Two waistband styles - Straight or contoured

  • Two pocket styles - Mock Welt or Slant

  • Foolproof fly front zipper

  • Leg width variations

After initial muslin fitting, we will make adjustments to our tissue patterns per Pam's recommendations.

Next, Pam will assess the tissue fit for each participant and recommend any additional changes, teaching the various pattern fitting and styling strategies along the way, e.g., leg width. Participants will make changes,  be refitted, and so on. If time allows after tissue fitting, participants will make changes,  be refitted, and so on. Bring a fabric or two for your first pair in case there is time to cut out and baste the pants together.

Pattern Prep

Order the pattern prior to class. Be sure to order the paper version (not PDF) since we will be tissue fitting the paper pattern. Pattern and virtual Workshop: $30

(Following class, you will have access to Pam’s Virtual Workshop which covers the aspects of fitting and construction).

Cut the pattern pieces apart, but not on any size lines.Press the pattern pieces and put over a hanger to bring to the class

If you have Fantastic Elastic, make a “Fitting Elastic” before you come. Cut the elastic to 3/4” wide and 2” smaller than your waist (it should be snug). Stitch into a circle.

Supply List for Classic Pants Workshop

Even though we may not get to fabric cutting….2.5 yards of bottom weight WOVEN fabric.  Even though the first pair is a “test” pair, the fabric should be of good quality with little to no stretch and a nice drape.  Preshrinking or steaming fabric is desirable. It’s OK to bring more than one fabric if you have it, Pamela will help you choose the best one!

Thread to match

Basic sewing supplies including scissors, rotary cutter, lots of pins, tape

measure, marking chalk, 18”/24” ruler

Mechanical pencil and a red pencil or pen (Pamela’s favorite – Flair markers by Paper Mate)

Optional: Pants for Real People by Patti Palmer and Perfect Pattern Paper by Palmer/Pletsch.  (Pamela will bring these to class.)

Scotch tape in a weighted dispenser

Bring a pair of pants (or more!) that have a leg style or silhouette that you like. They don’t have to fit great, but it helps me understand what kind of fit you like for your pants. We can copy that for your pant pattern!.

What to Wear to the Workshop:

Please wear tights, stockings, bike shorts and /or good underwear that do not leave a dent in your tummy area.  You will be stripping down in front of everyone and I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable! Also bring a robe or a long T-shirt if you don’t want to sew in your underwear - you will be changing in and out of your pants a lot!  Slip on shoes are also helpful.

Pattern fitting is one of my favorite things to teach and do for sewers!

In-person class only
