Pam Leggett is coming back for a two day Fit Fashion Patterns - Upper Body Fitting workshop, on two Tuesdays in October - Oct. 3 and Oct. 17. (This workshop was first offered through MAS in August of 2021).

Feedback from 8/21 was 100% (8/8) positive on every survey question. This participant summed up the sentiment:

I enjoyed this class very much! I learned a lot about pattern fitting. Material was presented in an orderly system to make it easy to understand. Environment was comfortable and safe - very enjoyable group of ladies - it was great to be back to in person learning - Pam was an awesome instructor -I would definitely take another one of her classes - Thank You!

Are you tired of making clothing that doesn’t fit? Help and knowledge is on the way. How do we do it? By fitting real women! Having long ago dispensed with tedious measuring or making a muslin to check the fit of a sewing pattern, we have mastered the process of tissue-fitting. This simply means “trying on”; the pattern’s tissue pieces to see where to alter the pattern for a custom fit. By following a systematic tissue-fitting sequence that has been developed and refined (wait ‘til you see the “wrinkle dictionary”!), the pattern pieces themselves become the muslin.

Learning the key elements of looking at fit as a 3-dimensional exercise, and the processes to alter a pattern are extremely empowering. Making fashion that fits is rewarding! Pamela will provide a “fit order” worksheet and access to her self-fitting video tutorial for all who attend.

Supply List:

For this workshop you will have the choice of working with Butterick #B6842, #6852, #6856, or #B6924, from Palmer/Pletsch.  You will need to purchase this pattern prior to the workshop.  These versatile patterns will help you learn important skills which can then be used on any pattern of your choice.

Choosing the Correct Size Pattern (just get as close as you can!)

It is important for you to know how to measure so that you will purchase the correct size pattern. Your pattern size is based on your high bust measurement rather than your full bust measurement. When you take the high bust measurement, it is important to have the measuring tape snug to your body, without outerwear on. Place the tape measure just under your shoulder blades in the back, high up under the arm, and above the bust. This is called a skin measurement. If you fall in between sizes, it is usually a good idea to go to the smaller size, unless you have a very broad back.

Pick your pattern size by the high bust measurement (more details on this will be provided to those who register)

Prepare the Pattern

Cut out around the pattern pieces (not on the cutting lines) for the view you would like to fit.  Press the pattern pieces and hang them over a hanger.  Bring the entire pattern with you.  Don’t worry, I’ll check your measurements at the class to get your best sizing!

Also Bring

  • Scotch Magic Tape in a weighted dispenser

  • Rotary cutter, ruler, cutting mat (pinnable), or a cardboard cutting mat

  • Palmer/Pletsch book, Complete Guide To Fitting and Palmer/Pletsch Pattern Paper (these will be available to purchase at the class)

  • Scissors, tape measure, any fashion rulers you own, fabric marker or chalk, pattern weights.

  • Flair felt marker by Paper Mate (any color except black). These markers don’t bleed through the paper.

  • Pins – these should be nice thin pins with a small head. Glasshead pins are the best!

  • Wear a camisole or close fitted sleeveless top and your best fitting bra.

  • 2 ½ yds blouse weight fabric

I am looking forward to working with you. Pattern fitting is one of my very favorite things to teach! If you have any questions about the workshop, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I will be happy to help you feel comfortable and prepared! 610-804-1640 pamela@pamelaspatterns.com
